Tracie Othella Sweeney
February 26, 2025

Tracie Othella Sweeney, age 100, of Port Lavaca, Texas passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Tracie Othella Edwards Sweeney was born on August 29, 1924, to Joseph Edwards and Rosie Lee Bedford. She was the youngest of sixteen siblings and was the only living survivor of her siblings at the time of her death. Tracie confessed Christ at an early age, and she was a faithful member of the Mason Temple Church of God and Christ until her health failed.
Tracie united with Henry James Vickers in holy matrimony, and they were blessed with five children: Earl, Henry J, Rose Mary, Joseph and Nikki. After the death of Henry James, Tracie married Robert Sweeney, Jr., who preceded her in death.
Tracie was known to be a stylish dresser, with a fancy hat to match her outfits. She loved watching “the stories” and western TV shows, but she was particularly passionate about traveling and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed playing word games and jigsaw puzzles, and she absolutely LOVED Michael Jackson. Tracie was loving, full of wisdom, and never shy about speaking her mind. She had a presence you could not forget and a personality that left a mark on everyone she met.
Tracie leaves three children to cherish her memory, Rose Mary Barefield, Joseph (Sheredian) Vickers, and Nikki (Sylvester) Thomas, along with many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her life was a testament of love and family. Tracie will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation and funeral services were held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Port Lavaca.
