Charles Ira Hall Charles Ira Hall

Charlie Hall, 90 of Port Lavaca, died peacefully surrounded by family on January 27, 2025.  He was born in Gonzalez County in 1934 to the late Corey Ollie and Lela Mae Hall. He attended high school in Karnes City graduating in 1952 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University in 1956.  He married Joyce Arlene Naylor in Woodsboro, Texas on June 2, 1956.
Charlie, a fifth generation Texan, loved to compete.  He played football, basketball, and multiple events in track and field all through high school and continued his athletic endeavors at Southwest Texas.  He was a fierce competitor pushing himself to excel and deliver for SWT, the teams he coached, and his entire family.  He built and sustained incredible life-long friendships with his fellow Bobcat teammates. We all loved hearing his football and track stories until his very last breath.
Charlie spent 33 years teaching and coaching young men and women.  His impact on students extended well beyond the classroom. He loved seeing athletes excel and accomplish more than they thought possible.  Most of his time was spent at Calhoun High School.  Retirement did not keep him away from going to the Sandcrab football games and when travel became more difficult, he would stay tuned to the radio listening to the games.  He coached all three of his sons and shared his insights with the grandkids, great grandkids, and anyone else that asked.
His true love was his wife, Joyce.  They were simply inseparable.  Their love story began while attending SWT, and continued as they taught school together, worshiped at the Methodist Church together, retired together, and enjoyed their later years golfing, playing cards, and spending time with family.  You rarely saw one without the other and most of the time they were holding one another’s hand.  They cherished 66 wonderful years of marriage before Joyce passed away in March 2023.  Their example of true love, loyalty, and commitment has inspired a generational legacy that has blessed our entire family.
Charlie is survived by his three sons: Rusty and wife Peggy, Randy and wife Alicia, and Rob and wife Stacey. Grandchildren: Cory Hall (Lindsay), Cody Hall (Hilary), Sarah Hall, Hunter Hall (Natalie), Hudson Hall (Jennifer), Robin Kok (Ethan), Kathryn Whitehead (Aaron). Ten Great Grandchildren: Bryce, Braden, Zoe, Charlie, Levi, Holden, Brennan, Phineas, Madeline and Sophie. Sister: Erlene Pendley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, parents Corey and Lela Mae Hall, stepmother Lucille Mahan Hall and an infant older brother, Corey Hall, brother Ollie Hall and sister Carla Machacek.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorials to Hospice of South Texas (605 East Locust Avenue, Victoria, TX 77901).
