It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maria Gonzalez Escalera (Port Lavaca, Texas), having departed on October 7, 2024 at the age 66. She was born on February 28, 1958 in San Felipe, Guanajuato to Susano Gonzalez-Hernandez and Eduarda Perez-Gonzalez. Her presence will be deeply missed.
Maria was a devoted wife and wonderful mother. She was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. She had the most loving advice and sweetest hugs. Her favorite things were cooking for her family and cruising through town with her husband. She loved bringing a smile to your face, she was a dear friend and neighbor to many. She leaves the legacy of her love and perseverance. Her family was her pride and joy.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 51 years, Manuel Escalera; Children, Rogelio (Cynthia) Escalera, Maria Escalera (Roger Lee), Rojelio Manuel Escalera, Cristella (Rene) Amejorado, Candelario (Melissa) Escalera, Hector Sr. (Reyna) Escalera, Maribel (Phillip III) Rendon. Her brothers, Antonio Gonzalez, Alberto Gonzalez, Martin Gonzalez. Her grandchildren, Nikolas Escalera, Ariana Escalera, Alexis Gonzales, Christian Gonzales, Aiden Gonzales, Devon Escalera, Damien Escalera, Diego Escalera, Matthew Amejorado, Nathan Amejorado, Isaac Amejorado, Emma Escalera, Ella Escalera, Ethan Escalera, Maxine De La Garza, Landen Romo, Hector Escalera Jr., Ezekiel Escalera, Rylee Rendon, Raelynn Rendon, Phillip Rendon IV. Her great grandchildren, Sophia Torres, Eliza Escalera, Kalani Escalera and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ignacia Perez, her brothers, Federico Gonzalez and Seferino Gonzalez.
Pallbearers are Rogelio Escalera, Rojelio Manuel Escalera, Candelario Escalera, Hector Escalera Sr., Rene Amejorado, Phillip Rendon III, Devon Escalera. Honorary Pallbearers are Martin Gonzalez, Alberto Gonzalez, Jose Eduardo Gonzalez, Joseph Gonzalez, Albert Gonzalez, Adrian Gonzalez, Jeffrey Gonzalez, Jason Gonzalez.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home, 123 Newlin St, Port Lavaca. Funeral mass will be Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 415 W Austin St, Port Lavaca. Interment will immediately follow at Port Lavaca Cemetery.
