Fritz Sturm
Fritz Sturm was born December 16, 1931 to Hugo William and Lottie (Hoffman) Sturm in Victoria, Texas. He passed away peacefully July 18, 2024 in Port Lavaca, Texas. Fritz dropped out of school to go to work to help support his mother and siblings. He received his GED later in life.
He married the love of his life, Anna Geraldine Searcy September 20, 1953. He claims to have “shook the bushes and she just came out”, but the love between the two of them was something special. Celebrating 70 years of marriage.
Fritz was working at Alcoa when he was called to the Army. He served from 1954-1956 as a culinary specialist. After he returned from the Army he went back to work at Alcoa in Point Comfort, Texas. He worked there until his retirement in 1994. After retirement, he moved to the Ander community in Goliad, Texas.
He enjoyed raising cattle, hunting and fishing on his ranch. He was a member of the Masons as well as the Eastern Star, serving as officer many times.
You couldn’t keep Fritz away from a good domino game. He always kept people entertained with his stories. You could also hear him singing at any given time. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Ander. There he made many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Lottie Sturm; his infant son, William Gerald Sturm; brother, Hugo Sturm and wife Shirley; brother, Rudy Sturm and wife, Johanna Sturm and their son, Rudy Sturm, Jr.; sister, Sophie Sturm; nephew, Craig Sturm; brothers-in-law, Gordon Searcy, Bruce Searcy and Jim Searcy; sister-in-law, Susie Searcy.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Geraldine Sturm of Goliad, Texas; son, Ronald Sturm and wife, Charlene of Port Lavaca, Texas; daughter, Susan Jeanean Williams and husband, Kevin of Ganado, Texas; son, Edwin Fritz Sturm and wife, Cathy of Columbus, Texas; grandchildren, Nicholas Smith (Erin) of Port Lavaca, Marshall Smith (Lindsey) of Port Lavaca, Nathaniel Smith of Austin, Texas, Stephanie Sturm of Columbus, Texas, Mallory Williams of Florida, Katie Williams of El Campo; step-grandchildren, Hope Kurtz and husband, Glen of Port Lavaca, Donnie Mayes of Galveston, Eugene Clinton and wife, Liz of Peru; great-grandchildren, Kendyl Smith, Camille Smith, Rylee Smith, Logan Smith, Audrey (AJ) Smith and J.J. Williams. He is also survived by brothers, William Sturm (Diana) of Port Lavaca and Max Sturm (Roberta) of Port Lavaca; special friends, Alvin and Arlene De Forest of Goliad; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Goliad Food Bank.
Visitation will be 9:00 AM-10:30AM, Thursday, July 25, 2024 with a service at 10:30 AM at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Ander, Texas with Pastor Anne Kolmeier presiding.
Pallbearers are Nicholas Smith, Marshall Smith, Nathan Smith, Kevin Williams, John Oliver, Donnie Mayes, Eugene Clinton, Jr. and Robert Zapalac.
Honorary pallbearers are Cathy Sturm, Charlene Sturm, Stephanie Sturm, Lindsey Smith, Audrey (AJ) Smith, Kendyl Smith, Camille Smith, Rylee Smith, Erin Smith, Hope Kurtz, Mallory Williams, Katie Williams, J.J. Williams and Logan Smith.
